There’s a moment in our conversation when iurisEkero admits he doesn’t really grasp his streaming numbers—nearly three million plays on Spotify, over a million YouTube views. “I don’t even understand those numbers,” he says with genuine bewilderment. “I just enjoy and am grateful.” It’s this unpretentious approach that makes talking with the Argentine singer-songwriter so refreshing.
Born in Mendoza into a family where his grandfather recorded albums and his father played trumpet, iurisEkero now splits his time between Argentina and the United States, creating what he calls “music to sound deep, not loud.”
Let’s start at the beginning. How did growing up in such a musical family shape you?
Music was like oxygen in our house. My grandfather was this seasoned vocalist who’d recorded multiple albums, and my dad played trumpet. You couldn’t escape it. But I never wanted to just repeat what they did—I wanted to refine it, make it my own. Living between the USA and Argentina now gives me this cross-cultural perspective that adds layers to everything I create.
How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music?
I’m a sound explorer. I blend pop with electronic elements, ethereal vocals, atmospheres that make you want to pause time. I draw inspiration from cities at night, red wine, those shared silences between people, and what I call the glitch of memories. It’s hard to explain, but you know that feeling when a memory hits you sideways? That’s what I try to capture.
Your new single “This Summer Night” just dropped. Tell me about it.
It came out August 19th, and honestly, it’s exactly what it sounds like—that magical feeling of a summer night. It’s three minutes and seventeen seconds of pure positivity. The melody hits hard, the synths are catchy, and it just captures that vibe perfectly.
What do you hope people take away from your music?
I want them to feel that urge to hit replay. Maybe they’re remembering a love, maybe they’re dancing, maybe they’re waiting for someone who hasn’t shown up yet. Even my songs about heartbreak carry this positive energy. If people enjoy listening half as much as I enjoy creating, then I’m happy.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on a new album featuring some really talented artists. I can’t reveal too much yet, but it’s exciting. I’m just trying to enjoy the ride and stay grateful for everyone who connects with the music.
