Wizzy Moni Is Making Afrobeat Hip-Hop His Own Way from Italy

Most artists pick a lane and stick to it. Wizzy Moni? He’s building his own highway. Operating out of Bergamo, Italy—not exactly hip-hop’s usual headquarters—this Nigerian-born rapper and producer fuses Afrobeat rhythms with raw hip-hop storytelling in ways that shouldn’t work but absolutely do. What’s compelling is how he refuses to follow anyone else’s blueprint, producing his own beats and dropping monthly singles on his own terms.

Released September 6th, his latest track “Deeper Than Rap” runs just 2:12 but packs in more authenticity than most albums. Growing up obsessed with hip-hop legends like Nas, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, and Biggie, Wizzy Moni absorbed the genre’s DNA during his teenage years in Africa. That foundation shows in his approach to storytelling, where every verse carries the weight of lived experience.

“My music is for all genders and for all humans,” he explains, breaking down his philosophy. “I rap reality and mostly about myself—definitely also about you, the listener.” It’s this connection to real-life struggles that defines his sound—no fabricated street tales, just authentic narratives drawn from his journey through Nigeria, Ghana, and eventually Europe.

His breakthrough came through an unlikely partnership with producer Daprince, CEO of Evil Nation Records, back in 2012. The two became the neighborhood’s most prolific duo, dropping tracks almost daily. Songs like “The Street Is Not Friendly,” “Warning,” and “MMDG” established Wizzy Moni’s reputation for unflinching street commentary. As he puts it in one of his tracks, “since I knew him, music became my career.”

The move to Europe in 2016 marked a turning point. Rather than losing touch with his roots, Wizzy Moni enrolled in a music production course, graduating with the skills to produce his own beats. Now he’s releasing singles monthly, building toward his second studio album while maintaining complete creative control.

Deeper Than Rap” follows June’s “Benue Cry” and finds the artist at his most vulnerable. “This song is about truth, about struggle, about survival,” he says. “It’s more than just a piece of music—it’s my story.” The track blends sharp lyricism with emotional depth, creating something that transcends typical hip-hop boundaries.

His growing international profile includes features on Weibo.com and 360Kuai.com, proving his appeal extends beyond Western markets. With influences ranging from current favorites like NBA YoungBoy and The Game to eternal legends like Kanye West, Wizzy Moni isn’t just another rapper trying to break through—he’s an artist rewriting the rules from an unexpected base in Italy, proving that authentic hip-hop has no borders when you’re willing to do things your own way.
