Shane Allenger isn’t new to the music scene, but he’s embarking on a fresh chapter that’s got fans buzzing. After years as part of the popular Cayman Islands duo Hi Tide, Allenger’s stepping out solo with his new single “A Sweet Dream.” We caught up with the Jamaica-born artist to chat about his roots, his new music, and what’s driving him these days.
Shane, thanks for sitting down with us. Let’s start at the beginning – how’d you get into music?
Well, according to my mum, I’ve been singing since before I could talk. Apparently, I used to wake the whole house up with my “performances.” I’m sure it was annoying, but you know, in that cute kid way. My first real gig though? I was nine. After that, it just became part of me. Everything at school had a beat to it – it’s how I remembered stuff.
You’re from Kingston originally. How’s that shaped your sound?
Kingston is in my blood. It’s not just one type of music there, you know? That variety, that richness – it’s all part of me now. I love all kinds of music, and I think that comes from growing up there.
So, tell us about this new single, “A Sweet Dream.” What’s the story there?
It’s funny, actually. I had this dream one morning that left me feeling… weird. Like, worried about all the negative stuff in the world, but also really grateful for the good things in my life. That contrast just stuck with me, and the song kind of grew from there.
How’s it feel going solo after being in Hi Tide for so long?
It’s exciting. Don’t get me wrong, Hi Tide is amazing. But this… this is just me being me. No expectations, no brand to stick to. Just Shane Allenger doing his thing.
If you could jam with anyone, who’d it be?
That’s tough. Peter Gabriel, maybe? But honestly, there are so many incredible musicians out there. I’d love to work with… well, pretty much all of them!
Last question – what do you want people to take away from your music?
I want them to feel something, you know? To reconnect with that kid inside them. To see the world – the good and the bad – and still feel loved. And maybe, just maybe, to realize we’ve all got a part to play in making things better.
As our chat with Shane wraps up, it’s clear he’s not just making a career move – he’s on a mission. With “A Sweet Dream” out now and a full album on the horizon, Allenger’s bringing a fresh sound that’s rooted in his rich musical past but looking firmly to the future.
Keep an eye on this one, folks. You can catch Shane’s new single on all major streaming platforms, and follow his journey on Facebook, Instagram, Soundcloud, and Spotify. Something tells us this is just the beginning of Shane Allenger’s solo adventure.
